Awakening consciousness, what’s it all about? This magical time of year is the perfect time to
reflect on our journey on this planet, in relationship with each other, and listen to the deeper voice of Divine breath within. There are ways we can help ourselves to wake up.
First,
become the observer of yourself. What motivates you? Motivations boil down to two things. Either we are motivated by love, or we are motivated by fear. At first glance we might think that hate is the opposite of
love. But that is not true. The opposite of love is fear.
I define awakening consciousness as spiritual maturity, which is built upon emotional maturity, and is the result of strong
character development. You can test yourself on where you are in awakening your consciousness by asking these few questions:
Do I take personal responsibility for my beliefs? Do I blame
others, my church or religion for not making more advancements in my spiritual growth? Am I able to walk past fear of threats and manipulation to believe what I feel compelled to believe, and search for truth? Am I
motivated by love or fear?
When you decide to do something, do you make your decision based on the best thing you want to happen, or out of fear to stop something else? So many times we focus on what others have handed down to us, whether it is religion, or politics, or our own social behavior. There can be a sense of conforming our behavior, our norms or our thought processes. Maybe we want to keep our job, or we may be in the habit of being people pleasers.
The Law of Attraction comes into play here. Whatever you focus on grows. If we have become fear based in our decision making, then we will attract more fears to us, and stop our forward
motion. Those of us who are worriers are always concerned with, “What happens if …” That shuts us down and keeps our minds locked up.
To awaken our consciousness, it is first necessary to
become aware of our motivations, our underlying reasons for doing what we do. Next, decide to only be motivated out of love. At first we say, “Of course,” but it is not easy to change lifelong habits. This is an
important first step, and will shift first our focus, then our results.
When you are making your decisions only based in love, no one can threaten or manipulate you with all the evils that
could possibly happen to you if you do not do what they say, from religions, to friends and family, and everything in between.
It is a huge step in character development to take charge and
have responsibility for everything that happens to you. Once we liberate ourselves from the strong holds we have allowed others to have on us, and how we think, we can begin to honestly contemplate how it really is,
that the Divine is intimately in us, closer than our next breath.
You are truly awake when you have the freedom to explore your own beliefs, making you a much more fully integrated person
in mind, body and spirit.
